 IFA HACKATHON||PLASTIC RECYCLING

Client: INNOVATE FOR AFRICA HACKATHON PROJECT >> RECYCLING PRODUCT

  • IFA's Hackathon is a design sprint-like event;  in which IFA Fellows brainstorm on an issue and go through all phases of design thinking to achieve this.

  •

  • The process: Our Idea was chosen through a rigorous but simple voting system and reasons for making our preferences. After this, my team created possible questions for respondents in our market research.

  • Market research was carried out through questionnaires. Respondent answers were then recorded and evaluated.

  • The reason for the PMR was to ascertain user stand on recycling

THE DESIGN THINKING PHASES: Design Thinking is a human-centered, iterative process that designers use to tackle problems.

Empathize:  The first stage of the Design Thinking process is to gain an empathic understanding of the problem you are trying to solve. This involves consulting experts to find out more about the area of concern through observing, engaging, and empathizing with people to understand their experiences and motivations, as well as immersing yourself in the physical environment so you can gain a deeper personal understanding of the issues involved. Empathy is crucial to a human-centered design process such as Design Thinking, and empathy allows design thinkers to set aside their own assumptions about the world in order to gain insight into users and their needs. In carrying out this process, teammates consulted environmentalists and industry experts while conducting surveys to garner empathy.

Define:  During the Define stage, we put together the information created and gathered during the Empathise stage. We analyzed your observations and synthesized them in order to define the core problems that our team have identified up to this point.

Ideate:

Then we went on to generate ideas.

Prototype: Our first prototype was quickly replaced with a more visual one. Our first recycling product was designed using Balsamiq cloud. Subsequent prototypes were done using FIGMA.

Test

User acceptance test was carried out to ascertain that the product is good enough for a roll-out

Platform:  Zoom, and Google Slides, google forms, google sheets.
